HIGH POINT, N.C. — After losing $73,500 in funding from Guilford County, the High Point Area Arts Council has suspended grants from two of its programs.
Awards from the council’s Teacher Arts Grants and Arts Projects Grants programs will be discontinued until the agency can find alternate funding.
Last year, 24 area teachers received a total of $11,061 from the arts education program, and 13 nonprofits received a total of $10,836 for arts programs benefiting the local community.
The council also will trim funding to its six affiliated arts organizations by more than $40,000.
The group aims to replace as much of the lost funds as possible during its 2007 United Arts Fund Drive, currently underway.
