N.C. Central gets $1 million from alum

DURHAM, N.C. — N.C. Central University has received $1 million from an alumnus to create an endowment fund for its business school and athletics department.

The fund is being named in honor of George R. Hamilton, president and general manager of Dow Coatings and a 1977 NCCU graduate who with his wife awarded the gift.

With the gift, Hamilton in part aims to ease the financial burden on the university’s business-school students.

He also hopes the investment will strengthen the institution’s athletics, thereby building the overall N.C. Central brand and attracting additional financial support.
