To the editor,
The Center for Disease Control cut funding this past June for the Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Prevention program that was locally managed by the Onslow County Health Department.
Without this funding, uninsured and underinsured women no longer have access to screening services or medical care to treat breast cancer.
A concerned group of women came together to brainstorm ways to provide screenings and/or medical services for disenfranchised women. From this, the Onslow Women’s Health Fund was established.
Monies raised will benefit women who are uninsured or underinsured and are in need of medical procedures related to women’s health.
An indoor community yard and craft sale will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Onslow County Health Department, 612 College St., Jacksonville, with proceeds from the registration fee of $20 per table directly benefiting the fund.
Medical Massage and Wellness Center will conduct chair massages for donations with proceeds benefiting the fund. To register for a table, contact Melissa at (910) 938-8823.
Plan on bringing a friend and come out and shop.
