Volunteer hero: Dr. James Walton

 |

Dr. James Walton of Central Dallas Ministries in Dallas, Tex., is the winner of PJ’s volunteer-hero contest.

Nominated by Jeremy Gregg, director of development for Central Dallas Ministries, Dr. Walton each week visits home-bound victims of neurotrauma accidents who cannot afford medical care.

These are low-income, uninsured quadriplegic and paraplegic people who were provided with emergency care at a local hospital, then sent home with no plan for care.

“He is literally keeping many of them alive,” says Gregg.
