New hotel to help boost community

 |

APEX, N.C. — The White Oak Foundation, a small faith-based nonprofit, and Marriott are building a new $15 million hotel and convention center in Apex to raise money and provide new jobs.

The new Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriot and an adjoining conference center will be located at the intersection of U.S. 1 and N.C. 55 in Apex. When complete, the hotel will contain 102 rooms, and the facilities will provide jobs for 60 area residents.

A portion of the revenues from the partnership will be used to help the foundation become self-sustaining, and to support affordable housing and economic independence for low-income North Carolinians.

Started in 1998, The White Oak Foundation works to provide economic, social, housing, professional and occupational assistance and support services to the community.

Among other activities, the foundation has provided affordable housing, youth tutorials and summer camps, a furniture and clothing closet, relocation support for families displaced by Hurricanes Floyd and Katrina, meals for the elderly and referral services.
