Charlotte fundraisers give awards

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals has named the recipients of its 2008 National Philanthropy Day awards.

The awards honor donors, fundraisers and groups who have worked to build up their communities.

A luncheon will be held to honor the award winners Nov. 10 at the Westin Hotel-Charlotte. Tickets can be purchased online.

The 2008 honorees are:

  • Bridget Anne Hampden, civic leader – Outstanding Champion of Diversity
  • Tom Warshauer, economic development manager, City of Charlotte – Outstanding Champion of Diversity
  • John Crosland Jr., retired chair and CEO, Crosland Inc. – Outstanding Philanthropist
  • Liz Simmons, civic leader – Outstanding Emerging Philanthropist
  • Edifice Inc. – Outstanding Philanthropic Small Business
  • James M. and Ellen L. Ross, posthumously – Outstanding Legacy
  • Laura Mesec, student, UNC-Charlotte – Outstanding Student Philanthropy
  • Autobell Car Wash – Outstanding Philanthropic Organization
  • Judy Harrison Barry, civic leader – Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser
  • Dean M. Jones, senior vice president of financial development of YMCA of Greater Charlotte – Outstanding Professional Fundraising Executive
