RALEIGH, N.C. – So far this year, the North Carolina Community Foundation has awarded a total of $649,920 in scholarships and educational grants for students across North Carolina.
Since January, the foundation has directly awarded a total of $340,920 to 226 students in the state.
The scholarships aim to help new high-school graduates and qualified adults receive higher education at public, private and community colleges in North Carolina.
The remaining $309,000 was given to colleges and universities that in turn awarded scholarships to their students.
The community foundation holds scholarship endowments for most of its 59 affiliate organizations.
The North Carolina Community Foundation manages more than 1,000 funds, totaling over $117 million in assets, and awarded 1,400 grants last year totaling over $6 million.
