WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The University of North Carolina School of the Arts has a new logo to go with its new name.
The blue, green and purple shield comes about five months after the Winston-Salem-based school took on a new name to better identify it as a member of the University of North Carolina system.
“It’s a logo that brings together all that we have stood for since the founding of the school in 1963, and all that we stand for today,” John Mauceri, chancellor of the school, says in a statement. “It is a representation of our past, present and future.”
The logo, designed by Greensboro-based Mitre Agency, includes five blue elements that begin in different places but converge toward the same point.
Those elements represent the schools five arts schools of dance, design, production, drama and filmmaking.
They lead toward a common point that represents a future in which all school work to achieve excellence in the arts, says Mauceri.
The shield is intended to represent a school strong academic program.
The logo is part of an effort to strengthen the school’s brand by providing a consistent visual representation across the institution.
