General Mills says 82 percent of its U.S. employees volunteered in 2008, up from 78 percent in 2006. Nearly 60 percent of employees spent up to five hours a month, and retirees volunteered 9,000 hours. General Mills awarded $87 million to U.S. communities, or over 5 percent of pretax profits.
