Oil spill seen as opportunity to promote conservation

The head of the Chesapeake Bay Association says President Obama should use the gulf oil spill as an opportunity to push for conservation, which he says represents the one strategy to reduce oil consumption and the pollution that washes into U.S. waterways, the Associated Press reported June 14 (see oil spill story).

Historic-preservation trust names chief

Stephanie Meeks, president and chief executive of humanitarian group Counterpart International and an 18-year veteran of the Nature Conservancy who served as its acting president for one year, has been named president of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, effective in July, The Washington Post reported June 15 (see historic preservation story).

Target gives $5 million to Minnesota Orchestra

Target Corp. donated $5 million to the Minnesota Orchestra, putting the group over its $40 million goal in its campaign to raise money to renovate its hall, the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal reported June 14 (see orchestra gift story).
