July 26: John Rex Endowment, Wachovia, Lexington Memorial, and more

John Rex Endowment awarded over $1.8 million in new grant projects focusing on encouraging healthy eating, physical activity, and community-wide solutions to combat childhood obesity.


Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation gave $20,000 grant to International House, Charlotte, to help launch youth English tutoring program.


Lexington Memorial Hospital donating outdated computers, printers, monitors and computer peripherals to Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina, which will clean sellable computers of data, load with Microsoft OS and Office, and sell in Lexington Goodwill store; unsellable equipment will be sold to environmentally responsible recyclers.


United Way of Cumberland awarded $200,000 to recipients in Fayetteville community from Youth Stock Growth Trust, established in 1992 by anonymous donor.


Winston-Salem Foundation awarded 17 diverse community grants totaling $330,095 to groups serving Forsyth County.


Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, Winston-Salem, awarded total of $150,000 to 11 small organizations for capacity-building efforts throughout North Carolina, and total of over $1.5 million to bring substance-abuse and primary-health-care providers together.
