July 30: Climate change, retired senior volunteers, Joyce Foundation and more

Ford Foundation launching five-year, $85 million initiative to make rural and indigenous people a stronger part of global response to climate change, saying that engaging these populations is essential to reducing poverty and building long-term climate solutions.


Corporation for National and Community Service awarded $1.4 million to help local organizations in 14 states engage over 4,200 new retired senior volunteers to increase student achievement, promote energy efficiency, and support independent living for seniors, people with disabilities, and veterans.


Joyce Foundation, Chicago, awarding total of $15 million to 68 organizations in summer 2010 grant making cycle.


McCormick Foundation making over $6.3 million over two years in grants to 21 organizations committed to improving early care and education for at-risk children in Illinois.


Nearly all 750 delegates at Hadassah’s 95th convention contributed over $10.6 million to support Hadassah Medical Organization’s ongoing innovation and care.
