Aug. 24: Harn Museum, Dollar General, Rose Community Foundation, and more

Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art, University of Florida, received bequest of 312 works of Asian art worth estimated $4.2 million, plus additional $1 million for endowment fund for acquisition of Asian art, from Dr. David A. Coffin; gift is in addition to $10 million gift given last year for 26,000-square-foot Asian Art Wing, to be completed in 2012.


Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded over $3 million to 812 schools and nonprofits.


Rose Community Foundation, Denver, awarded 88 grants totaling over $2.1 million second quarter 2010.


From June 30 to August 1, over 1 million customers visited Macy’s stores and gave total of over $3 million to 2010 Book A Brighter Future campaign to support Reading Is Fundamental; since 2006, Book A Brighter Future has raised over $16 million for RIF.


Marin Community Foundation making grants of nearly $2 million to support efforts in eight schools across the county to help ensure young low-income students and students of color in Marin get off to strong start in their early education.


Sun Life Financial’s Sun Life Rising Star Award program will give over $1 Million in scholarships and grants in 2010 to organizations for their commitment to providing academic opportunities to at-risk youth, and to an exemplary student nominated by each organization.


9th annual WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon on Aug. 19 and 20 raised over $3 million to support adult and pediatric cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston.
