Sept. 13: Queens University, Winston-Salem Foundation, Opera Carolina, and more

Queens University, Charlotte, awarded $3.25 million from John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to support digital and media literacy, and name school of communication for James L. Knight.


Winston-Salem Foundation made 16 diverse community grants totaling $343,545 to benefit people living in Forsyth County; its Elkin Advisory Committee recommended nine grants totaling $40,506 to nonprofits serving the Elkin Tri-Counties region.


Opera Carolina, Charlotte, awarded $92,685 from N.C. Arts Council to support performances of local and regional artists with the company.


Over 300 BB&T employees and executive management spending Sept. 9 at The Enrichment Center, Winston-Salem, as part of 2010 Annual Days of Caring, United Way of Forsyth County.
