Oct. 12: Wake Forest, American Tire Distributors, Leadership Greensboro Seniors, and more

Mike Farrell, chairman, CEO and president of Annaly Capital Management Inc., and his wife, Mary, pledged $10 million for construction of new building at Schools of Business, Wake Forest University, largest cash commitment ever by living individuals to the university and largest commitment to Schools of Business.


American Tire Distributors, Charlotte, awarded $100,000 to Boundless Playgrounds to support two new inclusive Tread Town playgrounds and $35,000 each to Hope House Foundation and Ada Jenkins Center.


Leadership Greensboro Seniors completed semi-annual food drive to benefit Greensboro Urban Ministry and hungry people in community, with volunteers from over 50 congregations in the city collecting record-high 85,032 pounds of food at participating grocery stores and other locations — 12,000 more than last fall’s drive and 28,000 more than in fall 2008, and raising $1,424 in cash donations.


Bank of North Carolina purchased and will give to Salvation Army of High Point Boys and Girls Club bikes its employees are assembling.
