Oxford University, which in August 2004 began quiet phase of international campaign to raise at least 1.25 billion British pounds, or $1.99 billion, has raised 1 billion pounds, or nearly $1.6 billion, including 230 million pounds, or $366.4 million, in last year alone.

University of Maryland School of Medicine received $45 million from family of patient Sheila Cafferty, largest private donation ever for University System of Maryland, to establish only major research enterprise in U.S. devoted to study of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.

Knight Foundation received $2 million grant from Google Inc. to support foundation’s media innovation work.

California Community Foundation awarding total of $3.6 million 51 nonprofits organizations serving low-income communities and vulnerable populations, mainly in Los Angeles County, and another $20.9 million from donors to organizations locally and worldwide.

Catlin Gabel, Portland, Ore., received multi-million-dollar donation, its largest ever, from Phil and Penny Knight for new endowed Knight Family Scholars Program.
