Oct. 29: Cornell, Living Cities, Wharton, and more

Alumnus David R. Atkinson and his wife Patricia Atkinson committed $80 million to Cornell to fund permanent, major research center focusing on challenges in global energy, environmental and economic development arenas.


Living Cities, collaborative of 22 of world’s largest foundations and financial institutions, to invest $80 million in five U.S. metropolitan areas — Baltimore, Cleveland, Detroit, Newark and Twin Cities region of Minneapolis and St. Paul — to create innovations that address intractable problems affecting low-income people.


Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, getting $15 million gift from Patty and Jay H. Baker to permanently endow Jay H. Baker Retailing Center.


Cornell raised $27.3 million for annual fund in fiscal 2009-10, up 12 percent from previous fiscal year and school’s highest ever.
