Gates Foundation braking global-health effort

The recession and a sense of urgency have eroded much of the enthusiasm of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for an ambitious effort it launched seven years ago to enlist scientists in solving some of the developing world’s toughest health problems, an effort in which the foundation has invested nearly $460 million, The Seattle Times reported Nov. 8 (see Gates foundation story).
