Nov. 10: Guilford nonprofits, Communities in Schools, Latino Credit Union, and more

Barbara Davis, executive director, HandyCapable Network, which promotes self-sufficiency for people with disabilities, received 2010 Consortium Nonprofit of the Year award from Guilford Nonprofit Consortium, Greensboro; Dennis Walsh, certified public accountant and principal, Deborah and Dennis Walsh Foundation, received 2010 Consortium Service Award.


Rebecca Clendenin, former chief operations officer, Grace Community Church, and former director of communications, Action for Children North Carolina, named communications and media specialist, Communities in Schools of North Carolina; Heather Wallace, former executive director, Communities in Schools of Montgomery County, named field services specialist for statewide group; and Charmaine Brown., with 10 years’ federal-grants experience, named pass-through grants accountant.


Latino Community Credit Union, Durham, recognized by Credit Union National Association with Community Credit Union of the Year award for credit unions under $250 million in assets, and second place for national Dora Maxwell award for social responsibility for credit unions between $50 million and $100 million in assets; also received a Diamante award from Diamante Inc. for the North Carolina-based business making most significant contributions to Hispanic community.
