Feb. 4: Media lab, TD Bank, Christian Foundation, and more

John S. and James L. Knight Foundation giving four-year, $4.2 million grant to Medill School of Journalism and Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, both at Northwestern University, to create Knight News Innovation Laboratory, first of its kind in U.S., with goal of developing digital tools used by journalists and community news and information providers.


TD Bank employees contributed total of $1.2 million and TD Charitable Foundation contributed $1 million to over 100 local United Ways from Maine to Florida.


National Christian Foundation reported contributions grew 65 percent in 2010 to $607 million, and grants to charities grew 20 percent to over $392 million, for record-high year; contributions since group’s inception in 1982 total $4 billion mark.
