RALEIGH, N.C. – YMCA of the Triangle raised just over $4 million in its annual WeBuildPeople campaign, the most ever for the annual effort.
Chaired by Orange Quarles III, publisher of The News & Observer, the campaign provides funds for families, adults and children to participate in YMCA programs, regardless of their ability to pay.
The YMCA also received a $200,000 gift from the SAS Championship.
The gift, made in honor of Quarles, will benefit Y Learning, the YMCA’s after-school tutorial program.
It was the largest single donation ever to support the program, which is funded through the annual campaign.
Doug McMillan, CEO of YMCA of the Triangle, says in a statement that the gift will allow the organization to reach its goal of serving 1,000 children in Y tutorial programs.
The cost for one child to participate in Y Learning is $1,500 a year.
The program provides homework assistance and academic enrichment to over 975 children in Wake, Durham, Lee and Pamlico counties receive homework assistance and academic enrichment through Y Learning.
