Oct. 28: Gulford College, Golfers Against Cancer, Food Bank, and more

Guilford College, Greensboro, received $1.5 million gift from Joseph M. Bryan Jr. to boost endowment for lecture series he established with $1 million gift in 1994.


Triad chapter, Golfers Against Cancer, raised roughly $300,000 in last year to be distributed to cancer research hospitals in North Carolina in 2012, bringing to $1.8 million the total in private donations raised and given for cancer research since organization was formed in 2005.


Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, Raleigh, received 237,128 pounds of canned-food donations for 2011 Food Lion Hunger Relief Day at N.C. State Fair.


RBC Bank delivered over 1,600 pounds of food to Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.


Allen Tate Company, Charlotte, raised over $70,000 in 2011 annual fundraising event to benefit public education, bringing to over $1.17 million the total the event has raised in 14 years.


Verizon Foundation awarded $19,730 grant to InterAct, Raleigh, to fund violence-prevention program to students from 3rd to 12th grade.


Junior Achievement of Central North Carolina, Greensboro, received $4,500 grant from Duke Energy Foundation.


Luquire George Andrews selected five Charlotte-area nonprofits to receive free advertising, digital, public-relations, social-media and creative services.


Winston-Salem Foundation awarded 17 community grants totaling $355,801.
