Dec. 5: Mission Foundation, Rural Center, Rex Endowment, and more

Mission Foundation reached $15 million goal to help fund SECU Cancer Center, Mission Hospital, Asheville; SECU Foundation jumpstarted campaign with $5 million grant in 2010.


N.C. Rural Economic Development Center awarded 62 grants totaling $9.6 million, through appropriations from N.C. General Assembly and other funders, to create 1,211 new jobs and assist projects benefiting 51 counties.


John Rex Endowment, Raleigh, making capacity-building grants totaling $97,900 to N.C. Pediatric Society, Pan Lutheran Ministries, Alliance of Disability Advocates, and Autism Society of North Carolina.


Waste Industries USA donated commercial front-end loader worth $115,000 to Heavy Equipment and Transport Technology program, Wake Technical Community College.


Greensboro Urban Ministry’s 20th annual Feast of Caring on Nov. 7 raised $46,092 in donations and pledges, and attracted 2,105 guests.


Winston-Salem Symphony received $40,000 grant from Samuel A. and Roslyn S. Harris Fund, The Winston-Salem Foundation.


PCL Construction Services, Charlotte, donated $10,000 to help kick off annual Harvest Feast Marathon, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, Charlotte.


Arts Together, Raleigh, awarded $5,000 grant from Verizon for organizational sponsorship.


SunTrust Foundation, Durham, will make grants of $15,000 each to Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, Raleigh, and to Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina, Winston-Salem. SunTrust branches in both regions will support both food banks by conducting public food drives through December 2011 and January 2012.


CORRAL Riding Academy, Cary, received grant from Stephenson Pope Babcock Foundation.


Sallie Bingham Center for Women’s History and Culture, Duke University, received $1 million pledge to endow its directorship from Merle Hoffman.
