HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point University has developed a new ongoing program, partnering with Food Donation Connection and Open Door Ministries to donate surplus food from the university.

Open Door Ministries in High Point typically picks up donated food two to three times a week from the university, which gives any remaining food to Food Donation Connection, a nonprofit that manages food-donation programs for food-service companies and typically distributes that food to food banks throughout North Carolina.

In the first five weeks of its new program, through Thanksgiving, High Point University has contributed over 600 pounds of food to local food banks, mainly in the Triad, according to the university’s online tracking system.

“There are always people who need help in our community,” says Don Scarborough, vice president for community relations at the university.
