To help the Philippines in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, AmeriCares sent an emergency team with medical aid for 20,000 survivors and gave funding to partner organizations, Heifer International is aiding its 4,000 project participants, Xoom is donating all money transfer fees on donations to the Philippine Red Cross, One Hour Translation is providing free translation services to rescue teams and survivors, and the USANA True Health Foundation donated $20,000 to International Relief Teams.
Walmart donated $1.5 million to Operation Homefront to provide toys and meals for military families and bring deployed soldiers home for the holidays. Walmart’s donation of $500,000 to the Fisher House will provide lodging for the families of service members undergoing medical treatment.
Gen. Colin Powell made a $5 million donation to and will lead the board of visitors for the Colin L. Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at the City College of New York. Twenty-six individuals were also selected to join the board of visitors. For details, click here.

More than 300 at-risk children will attend the Wender Weis Foundation for Children‘s 4th annual Holiday Heroes at San Francisco’s AT&T Park on Dec. 9.
