Foundation For The Carolinas announced a $45 million stock contribution to the Howard R. Levine Foundation, a donor advised fund held at FFTC. With the gift of 600,000 shares of Family Dollar stock from Howard R. Levine in October 2014 and the subsequent sale of the stock in late January 2015, this major gift brings his total philanthropic funds at FFTC to $65 million.

The 29th Annual A Toast to the Triangle for the Tammy Lynn Center welcomed 1,000 attendees to enjoy the best food and drink in the Triangle while raising more than $211,000 for Tammy Lynn Memorial Foundation—exceeding $200,000 goal for the second year in a row. For more, follow the link.

Alumni from the Davidson College Class of 2011 I.S. Dunklin, Kevin Hubbard, Matthew Loftus and George Stewart partnered with clothing company Vineyard Vines to reach their $250,000 goal for the John Frankel Memorial Scholarship. The alumni recently reached the $250,000 goal and continue to sell the ties in Frankel’s honor.

Hospitality House of Charlotte (HHOC), a local nonprofit organization providing affordable lodging to families and patients of all ages undergoing medical treatment in the Charlotte area, has met a generous challenge grant issued by The Leon Levine Foundation to raise $30,000 in 30 days during their latest fundraiser called the Queen City Corporate Challenge (QCCC).

Team V, The V Foundation for Cancer Research’s official endurance training and fundraising program, is looking for volunteers to participate in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh Marathon & ½ Marathon weekend April 10-12, 2015. Charlotte’s Jazz Arts Initiative (JAI) celebrates Jazz Appreciation Month by kicking off Season 5 of its highly acclaimed monthly series – The Jazz Room @ The Stage Door Theater – on Thursday, April 30, 2015 with internationally renowned jazz master Delfeayo Marsalis playing the music of Duke Ellington.

The Lupus Foundation of America, North Carolina Chapter (LFANC) needs 100 volunteers to help in various functions at its 7th Annual Walk to End Lupus Now: Raleigh. The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas’ (CBCC) wrapped up its Sixth Annual ‘Pints for Pounds’ campaign by donating 19,600 pounds of food to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.

Local legal aid nonprofits Legal Services of Southern Piedmont (LSSP) and Legal Aid of North Carolina-Charlotte (LANC) hosted their ninth annual Justice for All Luncheon March 12, 2015 at The Westin Charlotte with keynote speaker Chief Justice of the N.C. Supreme Court  Mark Martin, chair of the N.C. Equal Access to Justice Commission, to highlight the need for and the work of ensuring access to justice for the Charlotte area’s low-income community. On Saturday, March 28th, Wilmington area community members and concerned parents gathered at the Food Lion parking lot off S Kerr Ave for a 3 hour event to collect injection drug syringes discarded on the ground. New Hanover county has the 2nd highest rate of heroin overdose in the state and injection drug rates are rising rapidly, leading to increases in the numbers of syringes discarded in public areas. The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas (CBCC) recently honored its top area blood drive hosts and donors from 2014 in the first of two appreciation banquets. More than 200 people attended the Charlotte event that was emceed by Kristen Miranda with WBTV and took place at Hilton Charlotte Center City.
