Barlow Respiratory Hospital raised nearly $350,000 for the campaign to ReBuild Barlow at their benefit dinner “An Evening Under the Stars” on May 13th.
 
Community Boating Inc. (CBI) has received gifts totaling $1 million to support on-the-water programming for young sailors in CBI’s summer-long Junior Program as well as enhanced windsurfing and dockside facilities. The new funds have been donated by family members in memory of Norman Priebatsch, businessman, philanthropist, outdoors enthusiast, and avid Charles River windsurfer.
 
The Concept Development Fund, a program that transforms grassroots ideas for new community infrastructure into fully realized proposals, received a $125,000 investment by the Open Society Foundations, the international grantmaking network founded by George Soros.

The first planting of the year took place on May 16th in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
 
The New York Academy of Medicine and the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, with funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, have launched Health Data for New York City (HD4NYC), a multi-institutional platform that will advance population health research to promote health equity.

Parkland retirees share stories with staff during 125th anniversary

Parkland Hospital features a new temporary seal that depicts the Dallas skyline and the words ‘Parkland 125th Anniversary’ below. The seal commemorates Parkland’s decades-long history and dedication to the community.

On Thursday May 23rd, women entrepreneurs from around the country gathered for the U.S. finalists announcement of the Visa Everywhere Initiative: Women’s Global Edition in New York City. The Women’s Global Edition is a new extension of the established Visa Everywhere Initiative program, which is in 75 countries with 4,000 participants and has awarded more than $2.5 billion to 70 leading startups since 2015.

The Center for Effective Community Impact (CECI) has officially opened its doors in Washington, DC. CECI was created with the goal of revitalizing the non-profit world by making assistance for beneficiaries, customers, and contractors efficient and accessible.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s charitable arm has a new name: AAPD Foundation. The name accompanies an updated tag line, “Big Love for Little Teeth”, and a new logo.

The Community Chest‘s Professional Development Workshop Series will hold its last workshop, ‘Board Members as Ambassadors’, on June 10th in Englewood, New Jersey.

Good Grief will host the 5K Run and Walk for Hope on June 2nd in Madison, New Jersey. 

DDI’s 2019 Annual Golf Classic

On June 17th, golfers in the Developmental Disabilities Institute‘s (DDI) 2019 Annual Golf Classic will wear original sock designs, produced by John’s Crazy Socks and created by adults served by DDI.

The 6th Annual G20 World Brain Initiative Summit, or Neuroscience-20 (N20), will be held June 27th-28th in Osaka, Japan. Hosted by the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics, N20 is aimed at bringing together scientists, engineers, physicians, surgeons, industry leaders, academic institutions, non-profits and government agencies across the globe in order to rapidly introduce clinical solutions for patients with neurological disorders.

Open CallThe Shed’s commissioning and programming initiative for New York-based emerging artists, will begin May 30th, with new works by seven artists and collectives presented in The Griffin Theater.

FedEx Corporation and Junior Achievement Worldwide will partner for the third consecutive year to host the FedEx Junior Business Challenge. The program provides next generation entrepreneurs with a platform to pitch original business ideas to a panel of high-profile judges and the chance to earn a $75,000 donation from FedEx.
