The Winston-Salem Foundation released their scholarship totals for the 2019-2020 academic year: 615 scholarships totaling $1,015,177 awarded to 534 local higher education students in the Southeast.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals NC Triad Chapter named the award recipients to be honored at their 2019 National Philanthropy Day Luncheon held later this November. John Googe of Winston-Salem will receive the Lifetime Achievement in Philanthropy award.

North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine F. Marshall cautions North Carolina’s giving public to keep “a weather eye out for charity scams as Hurricane Dorian bears down on the coast.” Potential donors are advised to be wary of high pressure solicitations on social media and to make to give to established charities with robust Charity Navigator pages and a registered presence on the Secretary of State’s Charitable Solicitation Licensing Division.
The North Carolina Historic Preservation Office set up an online form for local governments and citizens to report damage to historic properties from wind and flooding associated with Hurricane Dorian.
