More than 107,000 donors made $507 million in gifts to Duke University in fiscal year 2019 to support such university priorities as financial aid, faculty excellence, research and campus renovations. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Duke raised more than $500 million.
Burroughs Wellcome Fund is now accepting applications for the PRISM (Promoting Innovation in Science and Mathematics) Award. This award, open to all public K-12 North Carolina teachers, provides up to $3,000 for one year to cover the cost of equipment, materials, and supplies, with the possibility for an additional $1,500 professional development.
NetApp donated $5,000 to Dress for Success Triangle, contributing to the agency’s mission of providing services for unemployed and underemployed Triangle women. NetApp has been an agency partner since 2013, providing financial and volunteer support.
The Durham One Fund distributed $152,148 to Upstream Works Collaborative to support the individuals impacted by the explosion in downtown Durham on April 10. The funds will support 37 individual requests for financial assistance to cover costs incurred as a result of the explosion. Financial support will also be provided to families of the individuals who lost their lives. The Fund was established directly following the tragedy by United Way of the Greater Triangle, Triangle Community Foundation, Downtown Durham, Inc., and various city and county representatives.

The Golden LEAF Foundation named Scott Hamilton the organization’s third president. Since 2014, Hamilton has served as the Executive Director of the Appalachian Regional Commission.

The North Carolina Employee Ownership Center (NCEOC) has officially launched. The NCEOC provides education around Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs), worker cooperatives, and Employee Ownership Trusts (EOTs) as strong exit options that also preserve jobs and community impacts. Dedicated to increasing community wealth and creating a more vibrant, inclusive economy, NCEOC has a particular focus on preserving minority businesses through employee ownership.
Project Impact appointed Kelley Bendheim Executive Director. Bendheim has served as Interim Program Manager for Project Impact since January of this year. Bendheim also serves as the Early Learning Coordinator for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system, a role she has held since November 2017.
The Bulow Bowman Scholarship Fund awarded 2019 undergraduate scholarships to Emily Atkinson, a graduate of East Lincoln High School; and Tanner Buff, a graduate of North Lincoln High School. Both students will attend NC State University. The Bulow Bowman Scholarship Fund was established through the Lincoln County Community Foundation, a regional affiliate of Foundation For The Carolinas.
