Melinda Gates made a $1 billion commitment to gender equality in the United States though her innovation and incubator company, Pivotal Ventures.

NOAA consulted with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in awarding the grants.

The NOAA RESTORE Science Program awarded $15.6 million in grants to four teams of researchers from across 20 institutions to support work on living coastal and marine resources and their habitats in the Gulf of Mexico.

Google.org will pledged $10 million to support businesses in underserved communities. As part of this commitment, the first $2 million will go to the American Library Association to support entrepreneurship centers at libraries in 10 states and help libraries across the country develop new offerings for small business creators.
