The 2019 Post Best Banquet held on October 5th in Charlotte raised $162,000. The proceeds from the event will help continue the programming efforts of the Charlotte Post Foundation: Community Education – Black Lives Matter Charlotte; Corrective Education – After School Program at Walter G. Byers School; Continuing Education – Top Senior Program.
Overflowing Hands’ annual Casino Royale fundraiser raised more than $180,000 on September 26th in Raleigh. Proceeds will be used to support children’s programs across the U.S. and around the world.
The Will & Deni McIntyre Foundation was awarded a $15,000 grant by the Perry N. Rudnick Endowment Fund to help fund Season 5 of David Holt’s State of Music. The Perry N. Rudnick Endowment Fund is a charitable component of the Community Foundation of Henderson County and has supported the production of David Holt’s State of Music since its first season.
The North Carolina Zoo was awarded a $9,300 Environmental Stewardship grant from Oliver Rubber Inc. through Michelin North America for its Environmental Education Programs.
In recognition of his numerous philanthropic contributions, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University will name its College of Business and Economics (CoBE) after Willie A. Deese. This marks the first naming of a college at the university. Deese recently bestowed $5 million in endowed funds to CoBE designed to meet a variety of needs, from scholarships to department chairs, fellowships and specific program offerings.

Tracy Callahan, founder of The Polka Dot Mama Melanoma Foundation, is the inaugural recipient of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery’s Sun Safe Hero Award, which launched during the Society’s May 2019 Skin Cancer Awareness Month campaign, to recognize consumers who advocate for skin cancer awareness in their communities. Callahan used her multiple melanoma diagnoses to form the Foundation’s mission of awareness, prevention and early detection.
ArtsGreensboro kicked off a $1 million 2020 ArtsFund Campaign, with the Art Does a Public Good reception on Tuesday, October 22nd at Dance Project Studio 323 inside the Greensboro Cultural Center in downtown Greensboro. The ArtsFund supports the mission of ArtsGreensboro and provides funds to support its grant programs, provide technical assistance and shared services, and to market and promote the entire arts and culture community.
David Morken, Co-Founder, CEO + Chairman of Bandwidth will receive NC TECH’s 2019 Outstanding Achievement Award. The award is part of the annual NC Tech Awards being presented on November 21, 2019 at the Raleigh Convention Center, recognizing organizations and individuals that have demonstrated excellence in technology and business.

The North Carolina Aquariums will honor veterans and military service members on November 11th. The three aquariums, located at Fort Fisher (Kure Beach), Pine Knoll Shores (Atlantic Beach) and Roanoke Island (Manteo), will offer free admission on Veterans Day to all veteran, active, reserve, or retired members of the U.S. military with a valid service identification or proof of service, as well as spouses and dependents.
SHIFT NC will offer Human Trafficking 101 on October 31. This free full-day training, offered by the NC Coalition Against Sexual Assault‘s Anti-Human Trafficking Specialist, will be a detailed introduction to human trafficking for professionals working with youth.
The North Carolina Council of Charitable Gift Planners will present Putting the Research into Practice: A Day with the Experts on November 5th at the Laureate Center in Kannapolis. This half-day seminar will be led by national planned giving experts Michelle Mancini and Dr. Russell James.
Registration for the NC Rural Center’s 2019 NC Rural Assembly closes November 1st. Make Your Place: Create.Transform.Celebrate. will take place November 21-22 at the Hilton Raleigh North Hills.
