Poverty, free markets focus of Pope Foundation
Since it opened in 1986, the $136.8 million-asset John William Pope Foundation has made grants totaling $89 million, just over half of it to support public-policy work in North Carolina, with over half of those funds, or nearly $25 million, supporting the John Locke Foundation, a Raleigh think-tank.

The Raleigh-based John William Pope Foundation has awarded nearly $1.3 million in local grants, including $858,000 mainly to arts, youth, humanitarian and educational groups, plus $440,000 for high education in the Raleigh area.
