Black Philanthropy Initiative awards $23,500
In its third annual funding cycle, the Black Philanthropy Initiative has pumped $23,500 back into the Winston-Salem area to help African Americans improve their parenting skills.
Black Philanthropy Initiative gives back
Formed in 2000 to celebrate and encourage giving in the black community in Winston-Salem, the effort has 14 members and awarded five grants totaling $25,000 in 2008, and four grants totaling $17,500 in 2009.
Black Philanthropy Initiative makes first grants
The effort has raised over $60,000 since its started fundraising two years ago, and this month announced its first five grants, totaling $5,000 each.
